From the beginning to now, let’s break down how we got here.
Way back in 2010, Melvin Brewing started as a 20-gallon brewery at Thai Me Up restaurant in Jackson Hole, WY. Melvin was born out of necessity during a time when the local beer scene was drinking beer from the 1800’s. Melvin decided to make beer from the future.
And just like that, we built a new 30-barrel brewhouse on the banks of the Palisades Reservoir in Alpine. Cut off from much of civilization, we brewed the beer that we wanted to drink, so we stopped "brewing to-style" and mastered the Shaolin style.
Melvin worked with Newlands in British Columbia to design our 30-barrel, 4 vessel system. What does all that mean? It means we can make lots of beer. This system was custom built to handle the tons of grain and stupid amounts of hops we put in our fantastic barley pops.
Times are crazy in the craft beer industry. and in December of 2022 we were acquired by Roadhouse Brewing in Jackson to form the Pure Madness Brewery Group. This organic, local partnership has allowed us to keep the vast majority of our staff and stay true to our original recipes, while improving our company culture and sustainability initiatives. With badass owners/entrepreneurs Gavin Fine, Colby Cox and President/COO Jody Valenta at the helm, we're keeping the best parts of the Melvin experience alive while continuously improving and progressing
Our brand and message is defined by these principles and core beliefs. This is who we strive to be.
Melvin’s teammates are the foundation of its success. They are tasked to represent the brand through honest, fair, and direct communications and actions. We won’t always be perfect, but we will always be honest, own our mistakes, and course correct when necessary.
We believe that this philosophy leads to meaningful engagement with our communities, our customers and our retailers (our Customers). And what better way to connect with you, our Customer, than to understand how you have arrived here and what you are all about. We want to talk with you about Melvin and invite you to join us in an exceptional beer experience, whether that is enjoying one of our classic core beers, a new barrel aged release, the newest member of our RIIPA series, or getting down at a Melvin Presents party.
...And sometimes we’re going to invite you to take part in amazing charitable campaigns benefitting our community and others where we sell Melvin beer. We recently wrapped up our Scenario clothing drive where we donated hundreds of coats to charity, and we’re also proud of our past work with The Trevor Project, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, R.I.P. Medical Debt, and many others. We’ll continue building more charitable partnerships and benefit our communities with your help along the way.

Through major Melvin Experiences and day-to-day events, Melvin creates exceptional beer experiences for its friends. We believe that when we engage through music, beer, and fun in a safe environment, we will create lasting impressions for our current and potential Customers. Our big beers and our big experiences aren’t for everyone, but we want people to know us through the experiences that we celebrate with them.
Good relationships arise from positive shared experiences. Melvin’s people proactively work with local organizers to create events that support community goals and create exceptional beer experiences. From charitable events and charitable giving to brewery collaborations and shared brewery resources, we search for opportunities to deepen our relationships in the communities where we have chosen to sell beer. We value the unique experience that each community shares as we become a part of it.
Melvin was started because the West Coast Style IPA did not exist on Wyoming’s “West Coast”. Desire for great beer drove our founder to meld new thoughts in beer development with new thoughts in marketing. We wanted to make beer from the future. Today, innovation remains the core of our craft.
We believe that through hard work and dedication, each team member will drive breakthroughs and innovation: whether developing a new world-class beer recipe, improving efficiency or quality to the next level through the brewing and QC process, or making the improbable events and marketing ideas a reality. Melvin is committed to trying new ideas and creating exceptional beer experiences in our communities. We strive to bring our team together to realize and evolve our vision.
Fun is our core, beer is our business platform.
You don’t start a brewery in Wyoming by
accident. Our founder chased his dreams
of snowboarding the biggest mountains
and biking the gnarliest trails to Jackson
Hole. Melvin continues his vision of brewing
exceptional beer in the mountains by hiring
production staff who select the outdoor
lifestyle provided by the Wyoming wilderness
and encourage them to own and love the
mountains. Across our team, we are fortunate
to be able to partner with teammates who
represent our culture and company, enjoying
what Melvin does and how Melvin does it.
Many of the events, groups, and charities that we sponsor in our communities foster health and our relationship with the outdoors. We love to see our people and our Customers choose to embrace an active lifestyle, challenge themselves, achieve greatness, and finish the day with a Melvin.
