Our 3-Way Hits the Road, A Melvin Love Story

Remember your best 3-Way? We just had ours and it was ‘oh-so-good.’ Story time!

It was January, the air was brisk, Melvin found himself in Astoria at a local watering hole. Melvin, a stranger to these parts found comfort as the IPAs flowed and conversations ventured deep into the evening. Little did Melvin know, that night would change everything. Melvin, got a bit tipsy (typical), grew a wild hair and wound up in a 3-Way. Now this 3-Way was no one-night-stand, it was something special. Fort George and Barley Brown’s swept Melvin off his feet and their was no turning back. Armed with Beastie Boys cassette tapes the 3-Way would hit the road with Boise, Portland and Seattle on the itinerary.

Chapter 1: Detail the 3-Way? Ok, since you need to know…

Peach, pineapple, and grapefruit aromas filled the room. Melvin could almost taste it. It was a 3-Way IPA, a unique brew, a special moment in time between Fort George, Barley Browns and Melvin. Apollo, Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic hops filled their senses. So many rounds of pure, unfiltered dry-hopping. It was a pale, balanced, juicy experience and the group could taste every citrus fruit aroma you can imagine. That night an IPA of Melvin’s wildest dreams seemed so vivid, so real.

Chapter 2: Spread the Seed, The Road Trip

Rumors of the 3-Way spread fast in Astoria. Some wanted a piece of it, while Budweiser loving conservatives frowned on this type of lifestyle. Feeling local pressure, the 3-Way decided to seek refuge in the golden triangle. The crew’s plan was to hit a series of 3-Way rallies in Boise, Portland and Seattle to drink IPAs while sharing their tale. In these towns 3-Ways were celebrated and encouraged. Barley Browns, a details man, prepared this itinerary:

Chapter 3: Beastie Boys Love and The Brass Monkeys

Everyone knows the legendary Beastie Boys were the original 3-Way. Using dope tunes and MTV, they took the 3-Way to the mainstream, the next level. Fort George, Barley Brown’s and Melvin originally bonded over a Beastie Boys song on the jukebox and admired their craft. Tragically, the days of the Beastie boys were gone, RIP MCA, but rumors of a tribute band swirled among 3-Way enthusiasts. The tribute band named the Brass Monkeys was said to be touring in the golden triangle and performing at the 3-Way rallies. This excited the crew.

With a tank full of gas, a trunk full of IPAs and Beastie Boys tunes filling the air, Fort George, Barley Brown’s and Melvin hit the road. Next stop Boise!
